Copyright stuff
Here's a quick guide to the copyright options. They range from Founder's Copyright (All rights reserved) to Public Domain dedication (All rights given away). The creative commons licenses allow you to reserve some rights, whilst allowing specific freedoms.
- Founder's Copyright: You automatically own the copyright on anything you create. This is the default setting.
- Attribution + Noncommercial + NoDerivs (by-nc-nd): Non-free license - allows noncommercial use, no derivative works allowed, author must be properly credited and license quoted.
- Attribution + Noncommercial + ShareAlike (by-nc-sa): Non-free license - allows noncommercial use, derivative works must be released under the same license, author must be properly credited and license quoted.
- Attribution + NoDerivs (by-nd): Free license - no derivative works allowed, author must be properly credited and license quoted.
- Attribution + ShareAlike (by-sa): Free license - derivative works must be released under the same license, author must be properly credited and license quoted.
- Attribution alone (by): Free license - author must be properly credited and license quoted, otherwise anyone can do what they like with this piece.
- Public Domain dedication: This completely gives the piece over to public ownership and relinquishes all rights. Anyone can do what they like with it.
See: <http://creativecommons.org> for a fuller explanation of the different licenses.
